Aleppo soap for sensitive and eczema prone skin type
Do you have skin that is prone to blemishes, acne, eczema? Let me introduce you to the all natural Aleppo soap. Aleppo soap is associated with the city of Aleppo in Syria. Its origin is not fully known. It is rumored to be the first soap ever made, used by Queen Cleopatra herself. The soap was traditionally made by a “hot process”. This was process whereby the saponification reaction was achieved during heating the mixture of oils and lye solution to a near boiling point. Modern soap makers use a “cold process”, where the temperature is brought high enough to melt the oils and fats.
Traditionally the Aleppo soap recipe contained Olive oil and Laurel berry oil. Not to be confused with Laurel leaf essential oil, Laurel berry oil is pressed from the fruit of the Laurel shrub. Laurel leaf essential oil is distilled using leaves of the same shrub ( also known as Bay leaf used as a cooking spice).
The percentage of Laurel berry oil in Aleppo soap can vary from 2% up to 40%. The percentage of Laurel berry oil will determine the quality and the cost of the soap. It is important to know this percentage when you shop and compare prices. You can’t rely on price alone, because if you pay top dollar for your soap bar it doesn’t necessarily mean that it contains a higher percentage of Laurel berry oil. Laurel berry oil is quite unique . It has strong antibacterial properties and is widely used for skin and hair problems such as acne, dry skin, eczema, rashes, psoriasis, rosacea, fungal infections and arthritis. At Potion Maven we use the “Gold standard” of 75% Olive oil and 25% Laurel berry oil. Our traditional Aleppo soap can be used daily for washing and shampooing, as a shaving cream, face mask, and for bathing babies as it’s completely fragrance free.
